CLE: Local Rules 101 – An Introduction to the Nuts & Bolts of Federal Practice in the NDNY – April 9, 2025

This program will introduce attorneys, particularly those in the first three years of practice or who do not practice regularly in federal court, to the nuts and bolts of practicing in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York by focusing on the District’s Local Rules of Practice, which supplement the Federal Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure and often determine the course, if not outcome, of litigation.  We will highlight best practices in a variety of areas including filing documents electronically with the Court’s MFT system, filing documents under seal, redacting sensitive information in documents, and briefing motions to dismiss and for summary judgment. Panelists will include the District’s Chief Judge, a career law clerk, the Court’s Operations Manager, and practicing attorney(s).  Course Eligibility: 1.5 Credits, Law Practice Management.
