Established in 2024, the Jeffrey E. Hurd Professionalism Award recognizes outstanding members of the federal bar and the NDNY-FCBA who exemplify the highest standards of professionalism, civility, and integrity in their practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York.  This prestigious award honors the memory and legacy of Jeffrey E. Hurd, whose career embodied the principles of ethical advocacy, respectful conduct, and unwavering dedication to the administration of justice.

Recipients of this award demonstrate exceptional character and conduct that elevates the practice of law and serves as a model for all members of the bar.  The award may be presented annually or semi-annually to a practicing attorney who has made significant contributions to the legal profession through their commitment to professional excellence and ethical conduct.

The FCBA Selection Committee will consider the following qualities and achievements in evaluating potential recipients:

• Leadership and Service
• Reputation and Character

The recipient of the Jeffrey E. Hurd Professionalism Award will be honored at the association’s Annual Dinner, where they will be presented with a commemorative plaque and recognized for their contributions to the legal profession.  Each recipient’s name will be added to a permanent display at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York, serving as an inspiration to current and future members of the federal bar.  The Board will also vote next year on a charitable donation in connection with the award.
