Program Summary: Artificial Intelligence is certain to impact virtually every aspect of the business and practice of law. This program will discuss various aspects of AI, including extractive and generative AI and considerations attorneys should be aware of in leveraging AI technology.

Artificial Intelligence for Lawyers: Ethical Concerns & Best Practices
AI and other emerging technologies, while holding the promise of helping lawyers serve their clients efficiently and effectively, can also raise many complex ethical issues. Although an attorney’s ethical obligations remain unchanged regardless of the technology relied upon in practice, in certain respects, the current rules of professional conduct may not have entirely caught up with emerging AI technology. This course will explore the evolution of tools leveraging AI and look at the ethical concerns arising out of using and not using AI tools in the practice of law.

Technology and the Legal Practitioner: Ethical Concerns and Best Practices:
Legal professionals have a duty to provide competent representation to their clients. In the past, that meant an attorney was competent based on their experience and knowledge of the law. Today, however, the concept of competence has evolved to include a duty of technological competence. Attorneys today use a wide variety of technology – from email to Word to AI tools. This session will address the ethical obligations that arise from the use of technology in the practice of law.
