The Federal Court Bar Association’s Trial Advocacy Training Program recently celebrated the graduation of its third annual class. In September, 12 attorneys from across the Northern District traveled to Albany for the two-day program, where they split into three teams and honed trial skills under the guidance of seasoned litigators and presented mock civil trials before United States District Judge Anne M. Nardacci, United States Magistrate Judge Paul J. Evangelista, and retired United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel. The program began in August with an evidence course led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Clymer and John Powers, a partner at Hancock & Estabrook, and in October participants will finish their training by attending the Federal Court Bar Association’s annual CLE, “Trying a Civil Rights Case.” Each graduate has agreed to handle a trial-ready federal civil case on a pro bono basis within one year of completing the program. The FCBA thanks all of the participants, the judges who presided over the mock trials, and the attorneys who taught the courses and portrayed witnesses.
